With fewer children in Australia involved with their local church, R I
instructors in schools becomes crucial. Legislation has provided us with the ability to bring Jesus love and instruction to these children.

Today, R I
instructors and helpers form the 2nd largest volunteer movement within the country. Week by week, volunteers go into classrooms in almost every state, with a love for God which they want to share with the children in their class.

More than ever today our young people need to find the hope of the Christian message and follow the light of Jesus.

Instructing R I is not just about preparing lessons, creating visuals and speaking to children. The essence of this instruction is based in relationships of genuine love and concern for the children out of which will grow faith and trust. It is more about 'being' than 'doing'.

There will be tough times...but remember, you do not stand alone in the classroom, Jesus is always with you. Take advantage of training opportunities as they come your way, enjoy the time with other R I instructors and spend time in prayer. You may never see the fruits of your labour but our faith is in a faithful God.

Paul writes ",, you shine as lights in the world, holding forth the Word of Life..." 2 Philippians 2:15,16 [MKJV}

                                                    Before the year
starts...
Your R I lesson does not begin when you walk into your classroom on the first day. This is the culminating step in the process preparing the way for you to be effective in your role as an instructor and friend.

1. Ensure that you have a 'working with Children suitability card' [Blue Card] Application form under 'Info'.
2. Ensure that a letter from your Minister/Pastor/Priest [Info] has been sent to the school Principal and that you have       received, in response, a Letter of Approval. [Often coming after the school year has started] Carry a copy with you.
3. Find out the starting dates, term dates, class allocation, maps etc. from your coordinator.
4. Have your R I curriculum material ready as soon as possible. Read ahead through at least one term's materials so         you get the big picture of where the lessons are going.
5. Start collecting visuals and other resourses in advance. For prepared PowerPoint presentations look under Lessons.
6. Take time to check the Goals and Outcomes for what you hope to achieve in each lesson, prior to teaching.
7.
Start praying now for your class, your school and yourself.
8. Mix with some family children about the same age as the class you are preparing to teach at school.[interest, likes etc.]
   9. When you start school, get to know your teacher[s] Ask if there are any with special needs that you should be aware     of. [remember privacy provisions]
10. Get to know your R I coordinator, fellow R I instructors and helpers and attend training opportunities during the year
