The R I instructors usefulness depends not so much upon the actual amount of their achievements as upon
the standard of their aims.
R I instructors need to be quick to discern and improve every opportunity for doing good; those who, with enthusiasm combine true dignity, who are able to control, and "apt to teach," [2 Timothy 2:24] who can inspire thought, arouse energy, and impart courage and life, will be most successful.
Those who connect with the school of Christ will be careful to obey the words of the Lord. Their faith will be founded upon knowledge, for they will be students of the Scriptures. Like the humble fishermen who united with the Saviour to learn of Him, those who love Christ today will not only listen to His words, but practice His precepts, and follow in His footsteps. The greatest Teacher the world has ever known, opened their understanding, and gave them knowledge and judgment, that they may approve the things that are excellent. The most educated, as well as the most ignorant, may become partakers of the knowledge of Christ's salvation.
R I instructors and Helpers may bring into the classroom a softening, subduing influence. In their daily habits they are to be an example of Christianity. Their clothes are always neat and tidy, their speech clear and true. Children are naturally quick to imitate; and as they see habits of order and cleanliness, industry and Christian integrity, exemplified in the life of their teachers, their own lives will be powerfully influenced for good. Excellent results will appear, and isn't that what we want?
